On May 13, 2026, Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with José Manuel Albares Bueno, Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of the Kingdom of Spain, on his visit to Madrid.
Discussions at the conference centred on enhancing bilateral relations, evolving them into a strategic partnership, and deepening the friendship and historical ties between the leaders and citizens of the two kingdoms.
The visit concluded with the signing of a memorandum of agreement for the establishment of the Saudi-Spanish Strategic Partnership Council.
The two ministers welcomed progress in collaboration, particularly in areas of shared interest such as security, defence, trade, investment, and culture, as well as multilateral cooperation, and expressed satisfaction with the current status and growth of bilateral relations.
Moreover, they pledged to enhance the strategic alliance and the prospects it presents going forward. An agreement on the mutual visa exemption for holders of diplomatic, special, and service passports was signed at the end of the visit.
Concerned about the growing tensions in the area, the two sides discussed regional and global events.
Prioritising communication and diplomatic solutions to support regional and global security and stability, they underlined the need to uphold international law and the need to solidify the ceasefire in Gaza, Iran, and Lebanon.
Both sides reaffirmed their demands for moderation and caution as well as for maintaining the Strait of Hormuz's security and freedom of navigation.

The Spanish side reiterated the Spanish government's support for the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the Gulf Cooperation Council nations in the face of the flagrant attacks that their nations have experienced.
Furthermore, it praised the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's responsible and balanced approach, as well as its ongoing calls for de-escalation and giving priority to diplomatic solutions.
The Saudi side applauded the Kingdom of Spain's stance advocating for a de-escalation in the Middle East, denouncing Israeli aggression against Lebanon; Iranian aggression against the Gulf Cooperation Council nations and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan; and Spain's stance on the Palestinian cause and its efforts to support the two-state solution.
