This course explores the gas turbine components, delves into the energy transformations within gas turbine engines, scrutinizes fluid flow in gas turbines, and analyse the simple cycle gas turbine performance in terms of power, fuel consumption, and thermal efficiency. Fuel dynamics and control systems in gas turbines are explained, where the profound impact of fuel choice on corrosion, emissions, and component life is unravelled. It also investigates the intricate relationship between ambient temperature and pressure on performance, and gains insights into the control system, power electronics, electrical components, and diverse applications of gas turbines. Further insights await in design and operation insights of the mechanical components of gas turbines, covering compressor and turbine design, performance characteristics, matching, surge prevention, combustor types, chamber design, fuel atomization, ignition, and the constraints imposed by fuels on the design and operation of the combustor.
