Sustainable marketing is marketing sustainability. Sound bizarre, right? Not the slightest. Sustainable marketing is promoting environmentally sensible products and services of business owners. 

In particular, sustainable marketing practices are strategies through which companies sell customers socially responsible or green brand values and eco-friendly products. 

But why would any company invest in the promotion of sustainable marketing? 

It’s a matter of survival. With the changing climate, shortage of natural resources and increasing pollution, sustainable marketing has become an essential part of business strategy.

In addition to that, it's plain financials. Customers are more aware of their environmental and social impact on the world and want to purchase products and services that are good for the environment and society. Thus, it's only natural for companies to promote these products to sustain their pool of consumers.

As we've previously explored, sustainable marketing practices are an approach that promotes sustainable supply chains and environmentally friendly activities. This marketing strategy involves five significant principles, here they are:

  • Consumer-oriented

Sustainable marketing focuses on creating and developing products and services that meet consumers' needs while being environmentally conscious and reducing the manufacturing process's harmful effects on the planet.

  •  Customer-value 

Every product businesses create includes an authentic attempt to spread awareness about sustainability, like carbon footprint and green development.

  •  Innovative

Sustainable marketing goes beyond traditional marketing concepts to create new initiatives for green products and involves the idea of sustainability in all aspects of the production process.

  • Sense of mission marketing

This is essential to sustainable marketing because it differentiates between a business that cares about its customers and wants to make money. Brands practice this advertising concept to create better communication with consumers, leading to longer-lasting relationships based on shared interests.

  •  Societal marketing

Implementing the social aspect of sustainable marketing sparks trust in the brand's image, and content marketing can reach a more extensive distribution of the target audience.

What are the 4 p's of marketing sustainability?

Regarding sustainable marketing practices, P stands for product, price, place and promotion, and the success of a sustainable marketing campaign counts on marketers focusing on these core principles while communicating with their audience. 

In other words, if you want your marketing practices to be sustainable, you need to implement the concept of sustainability in each of the Ps. You have to produce green products, price them appropriately, place them in an environmentally responsible manner and promote them in a way that’s consistent with your overall message. 

What is an example of sustainable marketing?

Today, there are plenty of examples of sustainable marketing practices all around the globe. The reason for that is simple; as growing concern over climate change and how it will shape the life of human beings affects more lives every day, businesses and governments alike can simply not go about producing harmful waste or destroying the environment without considering the long-term effects on everyone's lives.

One of the best examples of sustainable marketing practices happens in the airline industry. Airlines started offering more eco-friendly alternatives such as carbon offsetting, a fee that allows passengers to offset their travel carbon emissions by investing in sustainable projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions elsewhere.

How to use sustainable marketing practices to your benefit?

Sustainable marketing practices can have plenty of economic and social benefits, but it takes effort to create a strategic approach in your company. You need to ensure that your company’s values are aligned with sustainability and that your employees have the knowledge and support to implement sustainable marketing practices.

Here are some tips you can practice today to build your sustainable marketing practices actively:

  1. Invest in your brand's sustainable image: sustainability should be a part of all your advertising campaigns, social media campaigns, logo designs and even email marketing; your fans need to know your values and how hard you work to achieve them.

  2. Gain more knowledge on the subject: Knowledge is power, and taking short marketing courses that discuss the issue of sustainable marketing practices is a great way to earn more experience and support your sustainable efforts. 

  3. Change your supply chain: When it comes to supply chains, our advice for you is always to keep your manufacturing processes as environmentally friendly as possible, stay off harmful ingredients and watch over your waste production.

  4. Sustain the efforts: Sustainability is not a one-time thing; it requires constant effort and hard work.
